Introduction
Beaver Bridges Ltd (BB) were awarded this contract to design, supply and install a 7.5m x 1.2m pedestrian bridge at Towcester Recreational Ground. The main client provided the welfare facility and BB used a compound to safely store all equipment, installing temporary fencing and signage. BB had the responsibility of freeing and removing the existing structure, and the planning, managing, monitoring, coordinating and controlling installation of the new bridge.
The site was in a busy populated location, surrounded by a park, school and football ground. The path to the bridge lead to a busy housing estate.
BB produced the RAMs, a Lift Plan, and provided staffing resources, machinery, equipment, tools and materials. Site-specific inductions for all site staff were carried out by BB.
The Structure
After successful removal of the old structure an assessment of the footings took place to ensure they had not been damaged during the removal of the old bridge. The new footbridge deck was delivered to site in one piece and set down in the compound area. The deck was fixed using a chemical anchor system, it was slung into position to enable marking out and lining up holes for drilling. After deck install was complete the parapets and rails were fitted to the predrilled holes and fixed securely. The site was cleared of all plant and machinery. Any waste, materials and litter were disposed of in the skip provided leaving the site clean, tidy and safe. BB completed this project in a professional and safe manner, on budget, on time and to the client’s satisfaction.
