The programme of work began with the removal of an existing dilapidated suspension bridge and its footings. This was then replaced with a new full steel pedestrian footbridge which linked the Island to the mainland.
Access to this site was restricted and particularly tight during the installation. As a result, we had to strengthen the existing road bridges and upgrade over 3km of approach roads in order to improve the working conditions and make it safe for the required 400te crane to access the worksite. The arrival and sequencing of 7 ballast wagons was carefully planned and had to be meticulously managed to meet the rigging requirements of the crane.
In addition, manoeuvrability of all moving and static vehicles on site, and required materials deliveries, were also safely managed.
Beaver Bridges pride ourselves on going the extra mile to meet the needs of our customers and their structures. We also work hard to ensure safety is at the forefront of all planning and execution of projects, and all persons on site from Beaver Bridges work to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely and within budget. This particular project was completed with all customer criteria met, was completed on time and each step was performed safely.
