Suspension Bridge – Aldourie Castle – Inverness, Scotland

Programme

One of the earliest tasks was to install a heavy-duty temporary bridge to provide access to the far bank for mobile cranes, piling rigs, plant, machinery, equipment and materials.

Beaver Bridges went on to install piling, foundations, concrete retaining walls to adjacent features and then the bridge. Vibration monitoring was installed to record any movement of the main building during piling operations. To overcome access issues, the bridge arrived at site in component form; the pylons were partially constructed and were delivered in sections, the top piece and finials together as one. A 50T mobile crane was present on-site throughout the construction phase and was used to carefully lift the components into position while our technicians secured each part. Access scaffold and concrete pour were by specialist sub-contractor as was the accurate tensioning of the suspension cables.

The bridge was designed, fabricated and painted using methods and finishes sympathetic to the historic architectural features of the castle and the estate, whilst employing some modern materials to provide longevity and to reduce the maintenance burden.

Beaver Bridges completed this project in August 2019.
