Within this package, Beaver Bridges were requested to provide a full design, check and build package. This included the bridge foundations, access, paths, fencing and gates. We were also required to provide safe removal of five bridges and two tiny pipe culverts along with approximately 130m of 1m wide concrete causeway up to 100mm thick. Beaver Bridges obtained planning permission and EA consent, carried out Topological Survey and Ground Investigations. The site for the build package was near water and in close proximity to overhead power lines. A temporary aluminium roadway was laid on either side of the site. We installed 3 replacement bridges, reinstated existing causeway and created a new widened causeway. The project involved careful management of stakeholders, Landowners, Parish Council, EA and British Horse Society. The works were carried out in a safe manner and with minimum inconvenience to residents, businesses and to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
The Structure
The structures were craned using a 300t grove and the bridges were manufactured to be uniform in finish. The 36m, 18.7m and 5m structures were constructed in steel and timber, all steelwork coated with HA Type II alternative paint system, FSC hardwood and all fixings galvanised. Sympathy for the environment and ecology were other factors carefully managed, e.g. the presence of otters, bats and newts.
All criteria were met, on time and performed safely.
