As Prime Contractor, Beaver Bridges were responsible for planning, managing, monitoring, coordinating and controlling our works including health and safety and welfare on-site in conjunction with the requirements of the CDM regulations 2015.
The pedestrian bridge was shipped from the factory near Toulouse as individual parts, and Beaver Bridges rented a yard opposite a motorway service area to take delivery and build the bridge up into two sections in skeleton form (without deck).
During a 24-hour motorway closure, the Beaver Bridges team loaded the sections onto trucks and drove them up the closed motorway to the bridge location.
A 300-tonne crane was rigged on the motorway and used to offload the two sections. Great care was taken by the Beaver Bridges team to level and line the first section, using timber cribs and shims to ensure it was perfectly level and plumb. We then lifted the section and effected the connection. The chords were added at the splice location, and the bridge re-slung and lifted into place.
